The Light In The Lantern

---

The Light in the Lantern

On the edge of a bustling city, nestled between towering skyscrapers, stood a forgotten little lantern shop. The shopkeeper, Mr. Kapoor, was an elderly man whose wrinkles held stories of a lifetime. Among all the lanterns in his shop, one stood out—a small, unassuming piece with glass so clear it seemed to whisper secrets.

Every morning, Riya, a curious teenager, passed by the shop on her way to school. One rainy afternoon, as droplets painted the city gray, she sought refuge inside. The bell chimed softly as she entered, and her eyes were drawn to the peculiar lantern.

“Why does that lantern shine brighter?” she asked, puzzled.

Mr. Kapoor smiled, his gaze distant. “It holds a special light, my dear. But it only glows when someone truly believes in their dreams.”

Skeptical yet intrigued, Riya saved up her pocket money and returned the following week to buy it. She placed it by her bedside, wondering if it would ever shine for her.

Days turned to weeks. The lantern remained dim. But something had shifted in Riya. Every evening, before bed, she whispered her dreams to the little lantern—dreams of becoming a singer, of spreading joy through music.

One night, as she strummed her guitar softly, the lantern flickered. Startled, she leaned closer. Its light grew steadily, illuminating her room with a warm, golden glow. A newfound determination filled her heart.

Riya began singing at local events, her voice like a melody wrapped in sunlight. With every performance, her confidence blossomed. The lantern’s glow became her silent cheerleader, a reminder that belief could ignite even the dimmest sparks.

Years later, Riya stood on the stage of a grand auditorium, her dreams no longer just whispers. As her voice reached the final note, the audience erupted into applause.

Tears shimmered in her eyes as she gazed at the lantern, nestled among the stage props. It still glowed,  a testament to her journey.

Back in his little shop, Mr. Kapoor smiled as he listened to her song on the radio. He had always known the power of that lantern—but more importantly, the power of dreams and belief.
